WebMay 26, 2015 · Car Craft did a dyno test of a bunch of cams a while back in a 5.3 with LS6 heads, and that cam made over 400hp and about the same torque with 23" of vacuum at idle.. the best part, tho, is the $130 suggested retail price. you might be giving up some peak power, but oem cams are designed to be good all around and easy on the valvetrain.

WebJun 3, 2021 · Overall, the LS9 cam is not really a good "fit" with a stock 5.3. You are giving up 40-50# of torque @ 3,000 rpm and below. The torque curve won't catch the stock cam until about 4,500 rpm! And the hp curve is way worse, with the curves not meeting until 5,300 rpm! At 3,000 rpm the stock cam is over 30 hp stronger.
