If you lift from the frame, the springs will keep the tires on the ground until you have lifted quite a bit. WebAug 2, 2012 · Block up the rear of the truck, put a floor jack under the differential, remove the U-bolts, lower the axle enough to get the 4" spacer out, put in the 2", raise axle and install shorter U-bolts. On my 2008 I had to install new U-bolts as the thread on the longer bolts for the 4" did not go far enough to tighten and then cut off.

This is one problem with bottle jacks. They fit fine when there is air in the tire but when you loose that extra 4-5 inches of clearance you are SOL.
